The primary research resource for British & Irish archaeology

The British & Irish Archaeological Bibliography is now biab online.

biab online exists to support research work of all kinds. It provides bibliographic references - many with abstracts - covering all aspects of archaeology and the historic environment, and every chronological period, with a geographical focus on Britain and Ireland. There are almost 200,000 references from over three centuries of scholarship - with over 1,500 new records added each year. The biab online service now includes:
  • User accounts & saved search results facilities
  • Export of search results in html, pdf or BibTex format
  • Over 55,000 grey literature references from England's Archaeological Investigations Project (AIP)

biab online coverage provides references to: online & hard-copy publications; local, regional, national & international publications; books, articles, conference proceedings & grey literature. It is a service of the Council for British Archaeology, run with the support of all major historic environment sector organisations from UK and Ireland.

You can find out how to get involved in archaeology across the UK by joining the Council for British Archaeology. Please note that biab online does not cover literature aimed at primary and secondary school age, for more information on resources for 8-16 year olds see the CBA's Young Archaeologists' Club. You can also see the new Campaign to save YAC page for details of how you can help to save YAC's branch network.
